Meta or Google purchases dropped after the Shopify Thank you page upgrade. Why?

Short answer

Shopify upgraded the Thank you and Order status pages for non-Plus stores by 26 August 2026, and code in the old Additional Scripts box stopped running. If your purchase pixel lived there, purchases stopped reaching Meta, Google Ads or TikTok on the day your store was upgraded, while orders kept coming in.

Why it happens

  • Purchase code in Additional Scripts. Many stores pasted Meta, Google Ads or TikTok purchase code into the Additional Scripts box. The upgraded pages don’t run it, and there is no error message.
  • Script-tag apps on the Order status page. Shopify’s developer docs list 26 August 2026 as the date script tags stopped working on the Order status page.
  • An automatic upgrade. Stores that didn’t upgrade by the deadline were upgraded automatically, so the drop can start on a day nobody changed anything.
  • Server events hiding the gap. If an app still sends purchases from the server, the total falls less than you’d expect, and the drop is easy to miss.
  • Storefront script tags next. Shopify stops running script tags on storefront pages on 1 March 2027, and apps can’t create or update them from 1 October 2026. Tracking apps that rely on them will stop too.

How to fix it

  1. Find the dateIn Ads Manager, Google Ads and TikTok, chart purchases by day for the last 90 days. Look for the day purchases fell while Shopify orders stayed level.
  2. Read what was in Additional ScriptsIn Settings › Checkout, open the Order status page additional scripts. The box is view-only, but you can still read which purchase code was there.
  3. Move tracking to app pixelsUse the platform’s official Shopify app (Facebook & Instagram, Google & YouTube, TikTok) or a custom pixel in Settings › Customer events. These run on the upgraded pages.
  4. Check one source per platformIn Settings › Customer events, make sure each ad platform has exactly one pixel sending Purchase, so the fix doesn’t create duplicates.
  5. Check app script tagsAsk each tracking app whether it still uses script tags. If it does, it needs to move to an app embed or web pixel before 1 March 2027.

Check it worked

Place a test order. Purchase should arrive in Meta Events Manager › Test events, Google Tag Assistant and TikTok Events Manager once each, with the right value and currency.

Common questions

Can I go back to the old Thank you page?

No. Stores that were upgraded automatically can’t revert, and the old Additional Scripts box is view-only.

Does this affect Shopify Plus stores?

Plus stores went through the same change earlier, on their own timeline. The 26 August 2026 deadline was for non-Plus plans.

Can I recover the purchases the platforms missed?

No. Ad platforms don’t backfill lost events. Note the date in your reporting and judge campaigns only on data after the fix.
